Meet Your Attorney

Saba N. Ahmed focuses her practice on immigration law, representing clients in various matters before the immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Saba has extensive experience advocating for immigrant communities and has dedicated her legal career to supporting individuals facing immigration challenges.

Since 2017, Saba has worked as a professor in law school immigration clinics, teaching law students the practice of immigration law and training the next generation of attorneys. She works at the Immigrant Justice Clinic at American University where she runs the AU Dream Initiative. Through this initiative, Saba provides free immigration legal services to undocumented students in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (the DMV). Prior to her current role, Saba supervised law students at the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) School of Law. Under her supervision, law students have worked on a variety of immigration cases, including naturalization, permanent residency, deportation defense, asylum, and other forms of humanitarian relief.

Before joining academia, Saba worked as an attorney with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (now known as the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights), representing detained immigrants in removal proceedings and providing legal advice to immigrants detained in Maryland and Virginia. She also managed the Reception and Placement program at the International Rescue Committee in Sacramento, California to resettle refugees and coordinate services for survivors of torture.

Saba has contributed to several publications on immigration law and continues to provide legal information, “know your rights” presentations, and legal clinics to local immigrant communities in the DMV. She is committed to advocating for the rights and dignity of all immigrants.

Education & Licensure

Saba holds a J.D. from Berkeley Law, where she was a Coblentz Civil Rights Fellow and held leadership roles in various student organizations. She also earned a M.Sc. in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, where her research critiqued spatial assimilation theory as applied to immigrant communities.

Saba is a member of the State Bar of California and eligible to practice immigration and nationality law anywhere in the United States. She is also a member of the Capital Area Muslim Bar Association and the DC chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
